Parched Winter Skin? With winter just around the corner (for most of us), we can start now to prepare for the dreaded ‘dry skin syndrome’. Unfortunately, dry skin is a problem for many of us due to low moisture levels outside, and the drying effect of the usual heating methods we use inside. If you’re one of the many who suffer from dryness, flaking, redness and itching skin - especially in the cold winter months – cheer up – you can get relief! Because everyone’s skin and surroundings vary, a good start would be to get professional advice to rule out any serious conditions, as treatments too will vary. Typically, if you have chronic dry skin, the condition can worsen in wintertime; if your skin is typically oily, you’ll want to moisturize in winter also, but of course don’t want to over do it with a moisturizer that’s too oily for your skin type. In general, choose an oil-based moisturizer that is NONCOMEDOGNIC, in other words, it doesn’t clog pores. There are some great natural ingredients that are non-clogging such as: Almond Oil, Avocado Oil, Primrose Oil and Jojoba Oil (aka Jojoba wax). Any one or more of these emollients (skin softeners) in soap, lotion etc. helps make a great moisturizer. Jojoba oil in particular can even be added to your regular summer moisturizer to make a wonderfully soothing wintertime protector for your skin.
